Petitioned
Realizing that our beloved Chicago Cubs National League Ball Club ™ is, has been, and always will be one of the proudest teams in all of sport, and realizing our team is far from losers, and realizing that 100 Years is long enough to wait for a World Series Championship, we the undersigned fans of the Cubs Kingdom hereby respectfully request that the "L" Flag that has heretofore been hoisted over the baseball shrine known as Wrigley Field after a Cubs' loss be lowered one last time and then retired forever. The aftermath of the Cubs' last playoff game with L Flag flying. May this scene never be repeated.

The Rationale
We get it. When the beautiful white and blue "W" Flag is not unfurled over the scoreboard at the corner of Clark and Addison, the Cubbies either didn't win or didn't play.

Can you think of any sports team, at any level-little league, camp, high school, college, minor league, or any major league organization-that after losing a contest they lift a "Losers" flag over their venue? Well, the only one we know of is playing championship-caliber baseball on Chicago's North Side.

The Curse?
It can't be the Billy Goat. The Cubs have made good on this former slight several times when they invited the Nephew of the original Billy Goat owner, with Billy Goat in tow, onto the hallowed grounds of Wrigley Field. That is what in liturgical parlance is called "repenting" or "changing your mind". They can do no more.

Then What?
Well, while there may be other curses, what else can labeling your team as "Losers" every time they don't win be called other than a "curse"-certainly not a "blessing".

So, let's "Lose the L Flag". Perhaps have Steve Bartman lower it one last time and dispose of it with the remains of the black cat from Shea Stadium and Leon Durham's Gatorade ™ soaked mitt.

And if they don't win it all this year then we'll go on to tackle the next potential curse of the magical moment that will be when the next World's Champions Banner will be won and raised over Wrigley Field.

Like the Cubs themselves, we their loyal fans will never quit and will keep on cheering, supporting, and loving our team until victory is achieved.

In the meantime, our Cubbies and our ballpark will never be marked again with the "L" moniker of "Losers" because they are not. The joy, excitement, memories, and, yes, even the heartache we have received from the Cubs has left us more enriched and connected as a community.

There is no better definition of "winners".

"Go Cubs Go!"
